I confirm the issue in question and side with steve. On macOS, instead of preselecting per default /usr/bin, I find it better to preselect per default either (if installed and found automatically per search path) the GPG Keychain.app in /Applications/GPG Keychain.app or, as fallback or last resort, either the Keychain Access.app in /System/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.app or, alternatively, the /Applications folder.
