Description Sasha 2023-05-07 06:23:24 UTC
Description:
Many times I have found that changes made to a document (WRITER) that was saved to disk BEFORE closing the program disappear the next time the document is opened. Now I have seen that, most likely, this is due to the fact that I REFUSE to perform document RECOVERY, which WRITER offers me to perform when opening the document. WRITER offers me a recovery despite the fact that the document was SAVED to disk before closing the program!!! At the same time, the rejection of UNNECESSARY "recovery" leads to the loss of changes that were made BEFORE saving the document to disk and closing the program.

Actual Results:
The bug appears on two different PC with Win10.

I read two problems
A) The Document Recovery is offered each time after launch. Which should be the case, if LibreOffice closed normally
B) File Recovery wants to restore a file, which is older compared to the last saved.

For the crash on close part, triggering the file recovery. This might solve the problem..

Menu Tools -> Options -> View -> Check Force Skia Software rendering. Click OK and restart

1. I'll try again: SOMETIMES when opening a saved DOCUMENT (saved BY the BUTTON "save" before I closed the program!) I am offered to perform a RECOVERY.

2. TODAY there was an emergency AUTOMATIC exit from the program at a time when I was working in a new, NEVER YET SAVED document THAT I CREATED for temporary notes. I EMPHASIZE that the main document was opened AND WAS previously SAVED BY the BUTTON "SAVE"!.

At the start of the program (or double-click on the document file? - I don't remember!) I was asked to perform a RECOVERY of TWO documents. I chose only one of them - a temporary one that was not saved (unlike the main document that was saved before the accident!). As a result, I received an EMPTY, WITHOUT any text, temporary document ... and the loss of some of the changes in the main document that were saved to disk before starting work on the second, temporary document.

3! Please change the SEVERITY of this bug to URGENT and IMPORTANT: I have lost a very valuable pieceS of text that I may NOT be able to recover!!! :(

2 suggestions:
- check Tools - Options - Load/Save - General - Save AutoRecovery to be checked and set maybe 10 minutes here. Also check in this window "Always create backup copy". Are they checked in your case?
- use https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/timestamp-backup (if you don't know how to use this extension, search on Google: how to use timestamp in LibreOffice for backup). With this extension, you will have a copy of your project at the moment you have saved in the location you choose from Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Paths.

Sasha, have these suggestions solved your problem or is the problem still reproducible for you in actual version LO 24.2.3?
