I see no issue in clicking Add before picking the attributes. But anyway, this topic is discussed so often that we likely have duplicates. I remember a discussion where we pondered over moving the controls to the bottom (cannot find). => resolving NAB (it is clearly not a bug) (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #1) > I see no issue in clicking Add before picking the attributes. I remember > a discussion where we pondered over moving the controls to the bottom > (cannot find). => resolving NAB (it is clearly not a bug) It's indeed (implicitly) covered by bug 151377 *** Bug 154127 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #1) > I see no issue in clicking Add before picking the attributes. Coming from the dupe, I'll say: Picking specific attributes, fair enough - but picking the kind of effect - I definitely expect to choosen that before adding the effect - I don't want to add an effect I'm not interested. Even the effect _category_ can't be selected, i.e. one needs to add an Entrance effect even if one wants to make the object go away. This is surprising, frustrating and not necessary. It is also inconsistent with, for example, the draw toolbar, where you choose the kind of drawing object before actually drawing it; the tabs dialog where you choose the kind of tab before placing it; etc. No use case, no issue. Surprising and frustrating is an overstatement and never merits the effort to start from scratch. And the OP agreed with the proposed solution, call it workaround if you like. And the OP agreed with the > proposed solution, call it workaround if you like. FWIW: I do agree Eyal's view and argument. I struggle with exactly the same thing :-). And I surely find the PowerPoint implementation at bug 151377 comment 12 more natural compared to the current implementation. (In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #5) > No use case, no issue. I think perhaps you're referring to another bug? This is not a feature request. We are forcing users to do something they don't want, in order to then achieve something they do want. It is as though in order to draw a circle, you had to add draw a square, then change its shape in some properties menu. ... and actually, even worse, because if you have auto-preview enabled, you will also be treated to the animated sequence showing you exactly what you don't want to happen :-P > never merits the effort to start from scratch. I didn't suggest starting anything from scratch. I just want to be able to make a selection in the effect type list-box before adding the effect. There could of course be other UI changes to the animations sidebar, but this bug is not about that. I'll also clarify that, unlike Telesto, I'm not suggesting we remove the possibility of changing the effect type after addition - just that we allow it before addition. > And the OP agreed with the > proposed solution, call it workaround if you like. If you want to cancel the dupe relation to the bug I filed, we can continue the discussion there... |
