Stephen, I don't know anything about macros, but there seem to be an experimental feature about macro recording (see bug 64314). This is a request for a new feature: a single user event to begin recording a macro and a single user event to stop recording then a single user event to replay the macro. All this without any other user interaction. The macro is stored in temporary space. Nice to have is some feature to request saving the macro to the macro database under a default name (eg. timestamp) or a name of the user's choice.
