I added a screenshot of how this works in Excel (which I have to use at work). Default header and footer is "none", there's an option to select page and sheet number, but only if wanted.
Thanks for filing, Roeland. I would not support the idea if headers/footers are active. There are some reports about that issue .. > one for UX.. feel free to join (the) meeting(s)!
