Word Hide extension feature (missing in LO)

Description retired 2013-04-03 11:35:45 UTC

save as dialogue in pages

Problem description: Most softwares on OS X have an option to hide the file suffix when saving the file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Hit Shift + CMD + S or menu "Save as"
2. the LO saving dialogue does not have the option to "hide suffix"

Current behavior: see above

Expected behavior: offer this option.

This isn't a bug but a feature request. I placed it under LO > LO instead of e.g. Writer, because it applies to all components.

Operating System: Mac OS X
Version: 4.0.2.2 rc

Not sure if this ever worked. Thus setting version to "unspecified"

Thanks for reporting!

I can also verify this checkbox is present in Word for Mac 2011 (tested using Mac OSX 10.8.3).

Kind regards,
Joren

Would be good to have screenshots of the entire Save As dialog with the 'hide extension' enabled and disabled.

This likely would be an OSX specific enhancement from what i can guess.

Thanks for the screenshot. So the point is to hide the file extension within the filename field of the dialog.

So on OS X, whenever you enter the Save As dialog on libreoffice, it always appends the file extension, as it doesnt do that for me on Linux?

@j: it not only hides the file extension in that dialog. the dialog is likely the place it matters the least, if the extension is displayed or not.

the option is about the way the file manager displays the saved file (with or without the extension). as shown in the screencast, word even defaults to "on" (or it remembers the setting from last usage) for that option.

So should this still not be clear: if you navigate to the target folder which holds the saved file, the list of files will then display that file without the file extension, if the option was enabled. you can change and adjust this option in the file browser at any point in time. but giving the user an option to do this to their liking right away on saving the file, is the norm on os x.
